York will appear on Delaware ballots in 2026, capping off a historic first term rebuilding Delaware’s foremost oversight office

Dover, DE – Delaware State Auditor Lydia E. York filed for re-election today at the Dover office of the State Election Commissioner. York’s re-election filing comes just over three years into a historic first term as Delaware’s Auditor of Accounts. York, an attorney, CPA, MBA, and Delaware’s first African-American woman elected to executive office, began her re-election campaign by reaffirming her commitment to increasing government transparency as State Auditor.

“I was first elected in 2022 with a mandate for change in the State Auditor’s Office,” said York. “Delawareans made their voices clear: they wanted more transparency and accountability from their government. They knew that required a strong, independent Auditor’s Office that acted ethically, fought back against waste, fraud, and abuse, and offered everyone in our State more information about how our money is being spent.

“I’m proud of how far we have come since then. Our team has given Delawareans unprecedented insight into the programs, grants, and projects that they rely on. We never shy away from clearly stating when our State government needs to serve us better.

“Today, I’m once again asking Delawareans for their votes so we can build on the progress we have made. If re-elected, I pledge not only to continue this work, but to fight to make our Auditor’s Office and State government even stronger.”

After taking office in January 2023, York transformed an office reeling in the wake of scandal into the strongest and most productive oversight arm of the Delaware State Government in decades. Under York’s leadership, a rebuilt staff of qualified, non-partisan auditors has issued hundreds of reports and created new levels of transparency and accountability across State government.

York’s reports have included detailed engagements outlining control failures at the Delaware Division of Unemployment Insurance, special inquiries into a financial shortfall at Appoquinimink School District and unlicensed special education teachers in Delaware public schools, performance audits of Opioid Settlement grant recipients, the Diamond State Port Corporation, Dual Employment among Delaware officials, and volunteer fire companies, and dozens of audits of Delaware School Districts. Since 2023, York has also helped the State Auditor’s Office forge dynamic new partnerships with lawmakers, State Agencies, and law enforcement.

“Auditor York has fulfilled her promise to the people of Delaware to rebuild the State Auditor’s office, and there is more work to be done,” said Speaker of the House Melissa Minor-Brown. “I am proud to endorse her for re-election and I look forward to continuing to work with Auditor York in her second term as Delaware Democrats continue to fight for more transparency and accountability in government”

“Auditor York’s strong leadership has transformed a once underutilized and underappreciated office into a force for good government,” said Delaware State Senate President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola. “I stand with her for re-election because Delawareans deserve a State Auditor who serves with integrity and works hard on their behalf every day.”

“I have known Auditor York as a sorority sister, long-time Delaware Democratic Party leader, and now as a public servant, and I can confidently endorse her for re-election,” said former State Senator and the first African-American woman elected to the Delaware State Senate Hon. Margaret Rose Henry. “Auditor York’s leadership has helped move Delaware forward. I trust her to continue this work in her second term.”
